National Broadband Project Update

We just concluded another session of the UPICT “Get Up North” Online Forum with the topic: “IT Infrastructure Strategies for Pangasinan” Ms. Franchesca Estacio of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Digital Philippines (OASDP) of the DICT presented the current status of the National Broadband Program of DICT. Sir Wilson Chua also presented specific situation in Pangasinan and the strategies we can adopt to improve the internet connectivity by ten-folds. The forum discussion took time on the 3 nodes of the broadband backbone in Pangasinan, situated in Labrador, Sta. Barbara and San Manuel. We should ask which LGU in Pangasinan is currently aiming to tap this high bandwidth connectivity. The forum was also highlighted by the concern of the DepEd in terms of internet connectivity since they will really require allot of bandwidth to support the online classes. This is a very good topic for online forum.

DICT has set a deadline in their implementation and are working round the clock to achieve the goal. The local stakeholders such as LGU, Academe and the business sectors should also take part in this national project in order to speed up the development.
